The King of the Xroads
The Moustache Samedi 27 Xroad 7 is stunning. We were so impressed with this bike when we first ordered one in for a customer, we immediately ordered some more. Improving even further on the Xroad 5, the Moustache Samedi 27 Xroad 7, is the top of the tree in terms of spec. This one has the Open frame. Unlike the Xroad 1, 2 and 3, the Xroad 7 has a lower crossbar in the Open version, rather than being full step through. The colour is a sumptuous British racing green that photos just can’t do justice to. This is a bike that is as happy on roads and it is on tracks and bridleways, on a weekday commute as much as a weekend adventure.
Bosch Motor and Electric System
The motor is the new Bosch PerformanceLine CX motor. This motor is a step forward from the previous version, being lighter, more compact and with no internal resistance when pedalling without the motor assisting. The output is now up to 85Nm, so you’ll go places you’ve never been before.
The battery is the 625Wh PowerTube. This is integrated into the downtube but still removable with a key, so that it can be charged on or off the bike. This is now the largest capacity battery Bosch produce and will give a range of about 60 miles – this is a real-world estimate, in average conditions using different levels of assistance. Settings available are Eco, Tour, Sport (or eMTB) and Turbo. The assistance level varies from 55% in Eco to 340% in Turbo. These levels of assistance are added to the rider’s input and the motor comes in as soon as power is applied to the pedals.
The Moustache Samedi 27 Xroad 7 has a Shimano XT derailleur with an 11-speed, 11-42 tooth cassette. The brakes are Shimano MT400 hydraulic disc with 180mm rotor front and 160mm rear.
The front forks are Suntour, Mobie 25 Coil, with preload adjustment (to suit rider weight) and a lockout function (when you don’t want any suspension). Travel is 100mm on the forks. This year there is a dropper seatpost, which can be really useful if tackling difficult terrain, but also potentially very useful if you share the bike with someone of a different height.(Not that you’ll want to share this beauty).
The bike is equipped with an uprated Supanova front LED light and Spanninga LED rear, that run from the main battery and switchable from the new Bosch Nyon display. The Nyon has a colour screen with bluetooth support for your phone and heart-rate monitor. There a host of features including navigation and fitness. There is an AXA frame lock that locks the rear wheel and uses the same key as the battery release.
The new rear rack still has QL3 mounts that take the excellent waterproof Ortlieb bags and now adds compatibility for MIK bags/accessories.
What makes the Moustache bikes stand out is the thought that goes into the detail. They start with a clean slate and no pre conceived assumptions. This means that the end product is unique and designed specifically for a purpose with no compromises. The mudguards for example are Moustache’s own innovation, which unlike other mudguards do not move around and are made of aluminium. The slightly swept back handlebars are another Moustache innovation, which is where the name comes from.
We love the Moustache bikes and their versatility, comfort and style. Moustache call them ‘smiling machines’ and we can confirm that’s the case for everyone that’s tried one of our Xroads. We’re in awe and in love with this one and maybe you’ll feel just the same when you see it in the flesh. There’s only one way to find out.
