Updated Moustache Town and Country bike for 2020
This is the Moustache Samedi 28.3 Open. For 2020 it has been redesigned with a new frame. The handlebars are Moustache’s own special design that make for a relaxed, comfortable, upright position. As with all the Moustache bikes it is very stylish, practical and beautifully made.
This one is the Open version, with no cross bar. We can also supply the bike in the crossbar style which Moustache call Closed.
The Electric Parts
The motor on the Samedi 28.3 is the Bosch Activeline Plus. This delivers more assistance (torque) than the Active Line motor found on the 28.1 and has a bigger battery than the 28.2.
The Moustache Samedi 28.3 has a 500 watt hour Powertube battery – capable of up to around 80 miles and realistically, given different levels of assistance and varying terrain about 50 to 60 miles. Many factors affect your range but we can give you a better idea of what’s possible if you come to shop and let us know what sort of riding you’ll be doing.
The display on the bike is the Purion. This combines the controls for the bike (i.e. where you control the amount of assistance) and the display in one unit. It is very easy to use and the digits are large and clear.
This bike is the ‘open’ version making it very easy to get on and off but still retaining plenty of strength in the frame because of Moustache’s excellent design. This is a fully step-through layout, as opposed to the Samedi 28.1, which has a lowered crossbar.
You will immediately notice the unusual design of the handle bars. The stem is raised allowing an upright sitting position, and are curved back so that you are not stretching out and your lower arms are relaxed. Adding to the comfortable ride is a Wave padded seat and suspension seatpost. The Schwalbe Big Apple tyres add to the smooth ride and provide great durability and grip.
There is front suspension, with 63 mm of travel, plenty to cushion the effects of a bumpy road. It has a 5-speed Nexus hub, with a twist-grip selector on the handlebars. With the Bosch motor, you don’t need as many gears and this drivetrain provides a smooth, reliable and low maintenance solution.
The brakes are Shimano hydraulic disc brakes – powerful, reliable and low maintenance..
Finally, as with the other non MTB bikes it has Moustache’s own aluminium mudguards, a chain guard, lights that run off the battery and their latest design of rack that is equipped to take the Ortlieb QL3 bags. QL3 compatible pannier bags can be taken on and off the bike in one easy action and also have the advantage of low-profile and unobtrusive fittings on the bags.
This a bike that you really need to see ‘in the flesh’ to fully appreciate. Moustache have called the colour titanium – it’s a lovely metallic finish. This is a definitely a bike to rival Gazelle on classiness and comfort and has the style, performance and design that makes Moustache one of our favourite brands. But don’t take our word for it – why not come into the shop and make up your own mind?
