Description
Mighty but Mini
This is no ordinary e-bike. The Tern HSD P9 can carry lots of cargo (up to 170 Kg gross vehicle weight), is comfortable, maneuverable and easy to ride and can fit straight into the back of a car just by folding down the handlebars. It weighs the same as most e-bikes, but is shorter in wheelbase. As with all Tern bikes, the HSD P9 is very well engineered and thoroughly thought out. The array of extras and add-ons available mean that this bike is extremely versatile, whatever your needs.
The Electric System
The HSD runs the Bosch ActiveLine Plus motor. This provides quiet, smooth power to get you up that hill even with a fully loaded bike. The ActiveLine Plus motor has no internal resistance when pedaling without assistance, so when you don’t want or need power, it will ride like a normal bike.
The battery that is standard with the bike is the Bosch 400 watt hour battery. Tern say up to 69 miles range, we believe in mixed conditions you should expect around 40 miles.
Bike Components
One of the great features of the Tern HSD P9 is its load carrying potential. The rack on the back is long, enabling you to either just carry lots of luggage or have a child seat. Thule Yepp Maxi and other child seats will fit directly to the rack without additional adapters. You can add a number of different front and rear bags and racks depending on your exact needs. We can source any of the excellent Tern accessories for you.
The seatpost utilises a telescopic system, which means the bike can accommodate someone quite small (5′ or so) right up to 6′ 5″. The handlebars include a clever quick release clamp that means you can get them just where you want them. The wheel size is 20″ and the wheels are extra strong. The wheel size gives the bike quite a low profile and lower centre of gravity – much easier for getting kids on and off and more stable when they are on. The tyres are extra wide and puncture resistant (62 mm or about 2.5″). This again adds to the stability and comfort of the bike.
The gears are the reliable 9 speed Shimano Alvio. Brakes are Shimano too – hydraulic disc front and rear. Suntour suspension on the front provides comfort and control over bumpier surfaces
The Tern HSD P9 also has a built-in Abus lock. This locks the rear wheel and you can add a cable to it to secure the bike to an immovable object. Another nice feature of the HSD (and GSD) is the ability to park the bike vertically – very useful if space is an issue.
Conclusion
Another innovative winner from Tern. The HSD P9 is a tremendously versatile and high quality machine – there’s lots to talk about and demonstrate on this bike and we’d be delighted to introduce it to you.
